Community Projects
SI of Helena is very active in the community and participates annually in a number of community projects. We donate our time as well as money to many worthwhile causes. A partial list is included below:
Florence Crittenton: Annual fundraiser "Paint the Town Pink"; bake and deliver birthday cake for each girl living in-house on her birthday.
Race for the Cure: Annual fundraiser for the Susan B. Komen Foundation
Girl Tech: Program to involve middle school girls in math & science
Friendship Center: Empty Bowls Annual fundraiser; donated $1,000 to help with new building
Habitat for Humanity: SI of Helena club members participate in the actual construction of these homes.
YWCA: This past spring SI of Helena participated in The Adopt a Room program and decorated two rooms.
Teen Dating Violence: SIA project to spotlight the issues of teen dating violence in local communities around the globe. Although, the pattern and signs tend to mirror those exhibited in adult abusive relationships, there are some uniques issues that teens face.
Khmer Purses: SI of Helena has started selling Khmer purses and scarves as a fund raiser for our club. 50% of the profits are sent back to the women in Cambodia who make the purses. This project not only helps our club, but also provides income for these women who without it, would face a life of prostitution.
